It’s Fine Press Friday!
In the spirit of Christmas’s arrival in three days, we present a small Christmas-themed book entitled An Alphabet of Christmas Words, published in 1966. The book is a dictionary of holiday terms, with corresponding illustrations. Entries were selected and edited from the Oxford English Dictionary by American writer Helen McKelvey Oakley (1906-2003), who explains that her “interest [in this project] lies in seeing how The Dictionary treats [each term].” The accompanying illustrations are by Ursula Suess (b. 1924), a graphic designer, calligrapher, and artist. Most recently, her art was shown in a 2022 solo exhibition at the Tubac Center of the Arts in Tubac, Arizona.
Tumblr media
An Alphabet of Christmas Words was offset printed in Times Roman on Mohawk Superfine Text paper by Hallmark Lithographers Inc. in an edition of 360 copies, published by the Oxford University Press and designed by Ursula Suess and the press's art director and vice president John Begg (1903-1974). Also included with this book are two small season’s greetings cards from the press; one has Begg’s name printed on it and the other has “from Ursel and Mutti” inscribed in black ink.

Choosing the Right Printing Technology for Your Business Needs.
In today's dynamic business landscape, selecting the appropriate printing technology is crucial for ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. With various printing options available, making an informed decision requires careful consideration of several factors.
Understanding Your Printing Requirements
Begin by comprehensively evaluating your business's printing needs. Consider the volume of printing required, the type of materials to be printed on, and the desired quality and speed. For instance, a small office with minimal printing needs might find a basic laser printer sufficient, while a printing company specializing in high-quality graphics will likely require advanced digital or offset printing solutions.
Types of Printing Technologies
Laser Printing: Ideal for high-speed printing of text documents and basic graphics. It's cost-effective for office settings with moderate printing demands.
Inkjet Printing: Versatile and capable of producing high-resolution images, making it suitable for small-scale graphic printing and photo printing.
Digital Printing: Offers flexibility for short print runs, variable data printing, and on-demand printing. Well-suited for businesses requiring quick turnaround times and customization.
Offset Printing: Known for its superior quality in large-volume printing. It involves a more complex setup but delivers high-quality prints for brochures, magazines, and marketing materials.
Considerations for Selection
Print Volume: Assess the quantity of printing your business regularly requires. If it's high, offset printing might be more cost-effective despite the setup costs.
Quality Requirements: Determine the level of print quality needed for your materials. Inkjet and digital printing usually offer better color accuracy and resolution compared to laser printing.
Turnaround Time: If your business frequently needs quick prints, digital printing provides faster results as it doesn’t require the setup time that offset printing does.
Budgetary Constraints: Evaluate the initial investment cost, maintenance expenses, and overall operational costs of different printing technologies. Sometimes, a higher initial investment may result in long-term savings.
Consulting with Printing Experts
Engage with printing industry professionals or vendors to gain insights into the latest printing technologies and their suitability for your specific business needs. They can provide valuable guidance based on their expertise and experience.
Conclusion
Choosing the right printing technology involves a thoughtful analysis of your business requirements, considering factors such as print volume, quality, speed, and budget. By understanding these parameters and consulting with experts, businesses can make informed decisions that optimize their printing processes and enhance overall efficiency.

How Do I Choose the Right Printing Material for Large Format Printing?
Large format printing is a powerful tool for businesses, designers, and marketers looking to create eye-catching banners, posters, signs, and other oversized printed materials. However, to ensure the success of your project, it’s crucial to choose the right printing material. The material you select will significantly impact the final product’s appearance, durability, and overall effectiveness. Whether you are working with a printing press in UAE or a printing press in Sharjah, understanding the various types of large format printing materials available can help you make informed decisions and produce high-quality prints that stand out.
Tumblr media
What is Large Format Printing?
Large format printing refers to the process of printing large-scale images or designs onto oversized materials that are typically greater than 24 inches in width. These types of prints are commonly used for advertising and promotional purposes, such as banners, billboards, vehicle wraps, building wraps, trade show displays, and posters. Large format prints require specialized printers, and the quality of the material used plays a significant role in determining the final product’s durability, color accuracy, and overall appeal.
Key Factors to Consider When Choosing Printing Materials
Choosing the right material for your large format print involves evaluating several factors such as the intended use of the print, its exposure to the elements, the required level of durability, and the desired aesthetic outcome. Let's break down these considerations in more detail:
1. Intended Use of the Print
The first step in selecting a material for your large format print is understanding its intended purpose. Are you creating an indoor display or an outdoor advertisement? Will the print be exposed to direct sunlight, rain, or other weather conditions? The answer to these questions will help guide your material selection.
Indoor Applications: For indoor prints, materials like photo paper, canvas, or fabric are often ideal. These materials provide a high-quality finish that suits indoor settings like offices, exhibitions, or retail displays.
Outdoor Applications: For outdoor prints, you need a more durable material capable of withstanding harsh environmental conditions such as UV exposure, wind, and rain. Options like vinyl, mesh, or outdoor banners are popular choices for their durability and resistance to the elements.
2. Material Durability and Longevity
Durability is one of the most crucial factors when choosing a material for large format printing, especially if the print will be exposed to the outdoors. For example, if you're printing a banner to display outside your store or at a trade show, you need a material that can handle exposure to weather conditions without fading, tearing, or losing quality.
Vinyl: One of the most common materials for large format printing, vinyl is incredibly durable, water-resistant, and able to withstand the rigors of both indoor and outdoor environments. It’s also available in different finishes, such as matte, glossy, and satin, which can impact the final appearance of your print.
Canvas: Canvas is ideal for high-end prints that require an artistic feel. It’s more suitable for indoor displays where aesthetic quality is a priority over durability. Canvas prints often give a premium, textured look, making them great for exhibitions or galleries.
Mesh Material: When printing large banners for outdoor use, mesh materials are a popular choice. Mesh allows wind to pass through the banner, reducing the risk of the print being torn or damaged. This makes it ideal for large outdoor prints like construction site fences or outdoor billboards.
3. Print Quality and Color Accuracy
The material you choose also affects the quality of the print itself, particularly in terms of color accuracy and vibrancy. Some materials absorb ink better than others, while others offer a smoother finish that results in sharper, more defined images.
Glossy Materials: If you need vibrant colors and high contrast, a glossy material like vinyl or photo paper will work well. Glossy surfaces reflect light, which can enhance the intensity of the colors and make the print more eye-catching.
Matte Materials: If you want a more subdued, elegant look, matte finishes are often the better choice. Matte materials help reduce glare, making them a good option for environments with high ambient light. They are particularly effective for prints that include text or detailed graphics.
4. Print Resolution and Detail
Large format prints are typically produced at high resolutions to ensure that the images are crisp and detailed. The material you select should complement the level of detail in the design. Materials with smoother surfaces, like photo paper or satin, tend to provide the best resolution for high-detail images.
Photo Paper: High-gloss photo paper is perfect for prints that require excellent resolution and color reproduction. Whether you're printing a photograph for a trade show or a fine art piece, this material allows for the sharpness and depth needed to produce stunning visuals.
Satin Paper: Satin or semi-gloss finishes are often used for posters and prints where you need a balance of detail and a slightly muted appearance. These finishes are versatile and work well in both indoor and outdoor settings.
5. Cost Considerations
The cost of your printing material will also be a significant factor in your decision-making process. High-quality materials like canvas or custom fabrics may come at a higher price point, while more basic options like vinyl or banner fabric may be more budget-friendly. It’s important to balance your desired material with your budget, especially if you are printing in bulk.
If you're working with a printing press in UAE or a printing press in Sharjah, they can offer advice on material costs and help you find the right balance between quality and affordability.
6. Environmental Impact
In today’s world, businesses are increasingly mindful of their environmental footprint. If sustainability is a priority for your company or project, you may want to consider eco-friendly materials that are recyclable or made from sustainable sources. Materials like eco-solvent vinyl, which is produced with less harmful chemicals, or biodegradable fabrics are gaining popularity as more sustainable options in the large format printing industry.
Popular Large Format Printing Materials
1. Vinyl
Vinyl is one of the most versatile materials used in large format printing. It is weather-resistant, durable, and available in various finishes such as glossy, matte, and satin. Vinyl is ideal for banners, posters, vehicle wraps, and outdoor signs. It can be printed with high-quality graphics and is known for its ability to produce vibrant colors that stand the test of time.
2. Fabric
Fabric is often used for high-end indoor prints like backdrops for trade shows, exhibition displays, and event banners. It is lightweight, flexible, and offers a luxurious finish. Fabric prints also tend to have less glare, making them easier to view from different angles. This material is ideal for creating professional-looking displays.
3. Canvas
Canvas is a preferred material for art prints and photographic reproductions. It provides a textured finish that adds depth to the image, making it popular for fine art prints. Canvas is often used for wall art, but it can also be used for banners and signage in high-end retail settings or galleries.
4. Mesh Banner
Mesh banners are made of perforated material that allows wind to pass through, which makes them ideal for large outdoor prints such as construction site fencing or stadium banners. Mesh banners are tear-resistant and can withstand challenging weather conditions.
5. Paper
For more temporary indoor displays, large format prints on paper can provide a cost-effective solution. Paper options can vary, from glossy photo paper to matte-coated options, and they are typically used for posters, promotional displays, and point-of-sale materials.
6. Rigid Substrates
Rigid materials such as foam board, PVC, or acrylic are great choices for prints that need to stand on their own. These materials are often used for high-quality signage, point-of-purchase displays, and wayfinding signs. They provide a sturdy base that ensures your print remains intact and professional-looking.
Conclusion
Choosing the right printing material for your large format printing project involves considering several factors, such as the intended use, durability, quality of print, and your budget. By carefully assessing these variables, you can select a material that will ensure your print is visually appealing, durable, and appropriate for the intended environment.
Whether you're working with a printing press in UAE or a printing press in Sharjah, always communicate your specific needs with the printer to get expert advice on the best material for your project. With the right material, your large format print will not only look great but also perform well in its intended application, making a lasting impression on your target audience.

Events; tickets
Designing event tickets has given me hands-on experience with printing press procedures. I handled everything from creating the layout and getting client approval to preparing the canvas, adding bleed and cutting marks, submitting the layout to the designated layout artist for creating the printing plate, and overseeing the offset printing process. Each ticket was then individually numbered using a numbering machine (manually). I'm sharing these to highlight my exposure to the full printing workflow.

Customized Tamper Evident Labels: Boost Security
Tumblr media
In today's security-conscious world, Tamper Evident Labels play a crucial role in safeguarding products. These labels are specifically designed to indicate any unauthorized access or tampering, ensuring the integrity of the packaged item. Customized Void labels, featuring your brand name, provide an added layer of security and brand recognition. When these Tamper Evident Labels are removed, they leave behind a clear "VOID" message, alerting consumers and handlers to any potential tampering.
Special label shapes with perforation enhance the security features of Tamper Evident Labels. These unique shapes make it difficult for the labels to be removed and reapplied without obvious signs of tampering.
Furthermore, the use of TTE material, which disintegrates into powder when tampered with, adds an additional deterrent. This feature ensures that once applied, Tamper Evident Labels cannot be transferred or altered without destruction, thus maintaining the authenticity and safety of the product. By integrating these labels, businesses can effectively protect their products and build trust with their customers

tw - non/con, unbalanced power dynamics, obsessive/possessive behavior, and manipulation.
Guard Dog!Nanami, who's the best security you could possibly ask for. You've been told that hybrids aren't very good for protection, that you'd be better off just getting a regular dog or, better yet, not living alone in one of the sketchier neighborhoods of a notoriously unsafe city, but those people haven't meant your Kento. Stern, stoic, and loyal - he keeps you safe, helps around the house, and doesn't need (or want, for that matter) half of the attention a normal dog would need. Really, it's more like having a personal bodyguard than a pet. You're sure he'd prefer if it if you treated him more like the former than the latter, too.
Guard Dog!Nanami, who'd practically be human if it wasn't for the adorably pointed ears on top of his head, the wiry tail at the base of his spine, and the dull canines you sometimes catch a glimpse of during one of his rare smiles. It's clear that he doesn't consider himself to be like most hybrids, so you do your best to treat him like a roommate - giving him his space, making sure he has his privacy, constantly resisting the urge to run your hands through his hair and apologizing profusely when you inevitably fail. He claims he doesn't mind, not if it's you, but you've seen the way his lips curl when strangers so much as approach him, how he rolls his eyes when he sees other hybrids sitting on their owners' laps or begging for treats. You're not eager to get on his bad side, even if you do occasionally catch him slipping into your bed in the middle of the night.
Guard Dog!Nanami, who's mistaken for your boyfriend at least once a week. It's your own fault, really. He likes to walk you to work, run errands while you're away, all the things a stay-at-home boyfriend would usually do if he were as loving and as attentive as Nanami. It's always embarrassing, even if all you have to do is nod to one of his less-than-human features to clear up the misunderstanding. Still, it happens so often, and you're not proud to admit that from time to time, you don't have the energy to do anything but smile and nod when your elderly neighbor compliments the 'hunk of a man' living with you.
Guard Dog!Nanami, who's less naturally protective than you think he is. He's concerned with your safety, of course, but that's not a privilege that extends to the male coworkers he catches with a hand on the small of your back, to the friends who drag you out of your shared apartment and don't bring you back until the early hours of the morning. He spends more nights than he's proud of standing outside of your bedroom door, listening for any signs of life, waiting for an intruder, or a nightmare - any excuse to cross that unspoken boundary. It'd be more practical to spend his nights on the foot of your bed like every other drooling, filthy mutt hybrid, but that's not the kind of relationship he wants to have with you. Not if you have to think of him as a dog to get there.
Guard Dog!Nanami, who has to fuck his fist three times a day to offset his humiliating instincts. He tried for complete abstinence at first, not to think about you in that context at all, but there's only so many hours of his day he can spend with his knot pressed into his stomach, his cock twitching every time you bend over or brush against him. Still, it's far from a long-term solution. How could it be, when he still cums untouched every time you scratch the base of his ears?
Guard Dog!Nanami, who volunteers to take care of your household chores so he'll have an excuse to root through your laundry while you're away. He's surprised you haven't noticed just how much of your underwear mysteriously vanishes with every load, but even if you were less oblivious, he'd rather you be suspicious of him than ever find the hoard of tattered, stained, ruined fabric he keeps underneath his mattress.
Guard Dog!Nanami, who knows this can't go on for much longer. He loves you, and he respects you, and he knows that you'll never really see him as anything more than a pet, but he's can't seem to bring himself to see you as a master. And, when he's walking you home late at night after yet another unplanned bar crawl, when he's listening to you whine half-coherently about how hard it is to live with a hybrid that's so close to human, he may pass a darkened alleyway and listen to the long-buried, animalistic mind urging Nanami to claim what belongs to him.
Guard Dog!Nanami, who knows that you'll never make a very good master and he'll never make a very good pet. But, that doesn't mean he can't hope that you'll both be better off after your roles are reversed.

toji x crybaby reader <3
content: hurt/comfort, fluff, angst, smut under the cut !
˚ ✧ ───────────
toji is a flawed man.
short-tempered, married to his money, slow to show affection. but the one thing he does excel at is comforting you.
he knows you’re a sensitive girl, knows just how easy it is for you to get teary-eyed and red in the face over comments that otherwise seem like nothing to the untrained ear.
you have a kind heart is all, too giving to a world that only knows how to take. he tells you that every time you break down in his arms, thick hands rubbing circles into the small of your back.
his father would have slapped him across the face for crying. called him soft, whiney like a girl. put him to work for the rest of the day to shape him into a man.
he wasn’t his father though, and you weren’t a zenin.
you were soft in the best way, tender-hearted and too trusting. a daisy among weeds, swaying idly in the too-strong wind. nothing like a zenin, nothing like him.
he hadn’t the faintest clue what to do the first time he’d seen you get upset, standing there in the kitchen like a fool while you babbled on the phone with his bank.
it was a fraudulent charge, small, maybe only 10 dollars. probably dropped his card while paying for gas again, not the end of the world. the customer service rep assured you that much.
it was the principal, you sobbed. you’d lost his card and hadn’t even noticed. why wasn’t he upset with you?
he doesn’t know why he didn’t just tell you it was okay. that he didn’t have it in him to ever be cross with you, be it a ten-dollar charge or a thousand-dollar charge.
instead he wrapped his arms around you from behind, pulling your body flush with his to press soft kisses to the crown of your head.
you were warm there, warm everywhere really. the thrum of your blood heating your skin from the inside out. toji liked that about you, how you offset the perpetual cold of his much larger hands.
physical touch was something he knew well. toji wasn’t—still isn’t good with words, opting to stay silent and just hold you while you sniffled into the receiver. he got the message across, he always does.
his methods are unorthodox for that very reason. he doesn’t comfort you with his tone, he does it with his body. whether it be thick arms squeezing you until you get your breathing under control, large hands tracing shapes into your tummy until you stop spluttering, or toned legs splaying wide to let you crawl into his lap, resting on him until your bodies reach the same temperature.
toji fucks you on your good days, likes to tease you, get you squirming. the key difference is that he makes sweet love to you on your bad ones. holding you flush to his chest while he rocks into you under the safety of your shared blankets.
you feel like a furnace under him every time, heat radiating off your body and into the deeper parts of his soul.
he gets mouthy once the feeling of you wrapped around him flicks that little switch in his brain. turning off the mental barrier between him and his inability to use his words.
“sweet girl,” is what he calls you, eyes never leaving yours.
“gotta stay close to me, gotta keep you safe, huh?”
and keep you safe he does, tucking your face into the curve of his neck so you don’t have to look anywhere but him. letting you moan, and pant, and sigh into his skin while he rocks against that special spot situated deep in your core.
he goes harder when you ask him to. not faster, but harder—he knows the difference, letting the resistance in his hips subside so he can sink to the hilt over and over.
the juxtaposition makes his head spin. how do you manage to sound so sweet while asking for something like that? able to melt his heart even on the brink of orgasm.
you kiss him when he fills you up, letting him sink on top of you with a huff and a shy laugh. he listens as you open up about the good parts of your day, his soft hums of agreement spurring you on.
toji wishes he was taught to articulate himself better. he’s trying, he really is. though the “i love you” he says into your skin seems like his best shot at a start.
